Today’s Poem
Thirty

This year was the year I released myself— burdens, expectations, self-inflicted pains left on the shelf as books I have read. This year, I removed and left behind a whole lot of me, clearing a path for new vines to sprout, for fruits to ripen. This year brought new ideas, rising from the wildfires of my youth— flames I’ve had to put out, extinguished so new trees, my forest, can thrive. From ashes to renewal, a duel within my many selves. Fears, no longer fears, but mirrors of tears I no longer wished to cry. Patterns, untruths— I’ve learned to deny. This year has been the one— a coming to a loving, where I’ve learned to rely on myself. A loving, true to my eye my heart, no longer confused by lights that dim, not lit like mine. A diamond—whether seen or un-find. A coming to a loving that doesn’t bruise to be right rooted in joy, needing no girl or boy. A loving that rues with the moon, shares its delight, turns even the hard parts into light— like the slow rise of a new day. Dawning into the morning of a new year empowered by beginnings listening for the meanings we know we will find here.
